Summary:

The establishment and activities of the Hellenic Philological Association of Constantinople (HPSC) represent the most significant organization of the Orthodox community within the Ottoman Empire. It earned well-deserved praise not only from Greek society but also from foreign and Turkish intellectuals of the time. This private initiative, aimed at strengthening and spreading Greek education to all Orthodox communities, including the most remote villages of the Ottoman Empire, far exceeded expectations and successfully undertook the role of a state institution.

Today, more than ever, it is our minimal duty to delve into the work of the HPSC. This publication aims to significantly contribute to the understanding of the HPSC 's vision and to highlight its magnitude.
