Foundation for Historical Studies (IDISME)

Our vision

The Hellenic Foundation for Historical Studies (IDISME) was founded in 2008 and aims to preserve and record the modern history of Hellenism and the exploitation of historical relics and primary sources. Our vision is summed up in the verse of M. Anagnostakis: "I remember and therefore I exist".

The long-standing rich intellectual activity of the Greek educational and cultural institutions of the East and especially the unique work of the Hellenic Philological Society of Constantinople (HFC) has been our main source of inspiration.

Among the actions of IDISME are the publication of scientific and literary books, the creation of historical documentaries as well as the implementation of educational programmes and lectures in schools, institutions and faculties in Greece and abroad in order to disseminate knowledge to young people and especially to pupils and students as well as to teach unknown, mainly unknown, aspects of modern Greek history.

IDISME collaborates with renowned research centres and universities in Greece and abroad, aiming to further expand its collaborations.

Since 2016, IDISME has been organizing Beyond Borders | International Documentary Festival of Castellorizo on the island of Castellorizo.

Educational Programs

HHF is developing a multifaceted and educational activity through educational programmes that it organizes. These projects are designed and created by its research team.

These programmes cover a wide range of knowledge (such as history, theatre, literature, etc.) and appeal to all age groups. The programmes for students of modern Greek history in particular are growing in popularity among schools.

Our library

The Library is an independent part of the HHF and specializes in Greek and Turkish history and literature. It serves the research interests of the Foundation and its visitors. Visits can be arranged by appointment on +30 210 6669131.

Oral History

The aim of oral history is to examine the past through personal encounters. The interviews and the recording of personal accounts are a key element of the foundation’s work.
